Complaining Is Not Mandatory

Monday, March 31st, 2008

We do not have to accept complaining as a “normal” part of our expression process. Believe it!

Often when I try to explain this to people their eyes glaze over and they begin to drift away. The fact is most people simply don’t believe it’s really possible to live a life without complaints… but it is!

I’m not suggesting you can never again have a problem, or even a crisis. I’m just saying you absolutely can live out the rest of your life without engaging in the self-defeating, downright destructive activity of complaining.

I decided to kick the complaint habit a few months back. At this time I’m about 95% complaint free (habits tend to hang on to the subconcious mind for a while) and my life is better than it has ever been before.

Not only will you feel better when you dump complaining, your results will really start improving.

If you’re one of the people who thinks this sounds corny I urge you to get a grip. What have we come to as a society when people scoff and mock higher thinking?

My challenge to all readers of this blog: Set aside a 24 hour complaint free day and focus all your efforts on not uttering a single complaint the entire time. Take it to the next level by focusing your mind and not allowing a negative thought to enter your day.

If you do let a negative thought in, or if you do let a complaint slip just get back on track and keep going for the rest of your 24 hours. If you put a sincere effort into this exercise you will be blown away by how it makes you feel.

Please feel free to post comments about your experiment here. :)

Sincerity Above All

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

I’m often asked by new entrepreneurs, or by business people who are not active on the Web:

“What’s the most important thing I should focus on when building my business online?”

The answer is simple. Sure there are lots of important areas, but when it comes right down to the number one element for any online business, in any niche…

Sincerity.

That might sound simplistic. It might even come across as corny.

But if you don’t yet have a thriving online business I suggest you heed this single concept above all else. The Web is absolutely teeming with cheesy, contrived, and impersonal operations that think in linear fashion about setting up + advertising + sales process = big profits.

Furthermore, it seems like the vast majority of small start-ups have nothing real to say.

Here’s the deal: Without a substantial and legitimately interesting human factor your online business will die without a fighting chance.

I’m not going to go into big detail with this post but trust me this is something you’ll read a lot about on this blog. For now just roll it over in your own mind.

What do you think of when I say “sincere”, and “human element”? How do the sites that enjoy your patronage capture the essence of these ideals?

Absolute Power

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

Personal power in many forms is an elusive ideal that most of us are seeking. There are many good books and great teachers on this matter, and indeed many different ideas of what exactly power and empowerment are.

I’ve recently had a moment of clarity in which I defined absolute power in the following manner:

True power occurs the very moment a person fully understands that he or she has 100% control over the images seen in his or her mind, and 100% control over the beliefs he or she will entertain.

That’s my story, as the saying goes, and I’m sticking to it.
